Using Pre-season Results for Fantasy Football

The pre-season games of the NFL have already started. But even though it's just a pre-season, there are many interesting developments everyone saw on the field. Rookies, especially the quarterbacks were able to prove that every penny the company paid for them is worth it. Everyone also saw Michael Vick playing for a few minutes which is a good development for him and hopefully for the team. Everyone also saw how Romo is getting the team in trouble because of interceptions. Hopefully, he gets better when the season starts or else Dallas is in for a very long and disappointing season.

The pre-season games don’t really matter. Any team could win all their pre-season game but can still win the Super Bowl. Many teams often do their "special programs" during the pre-season wherein the games are dedicated for some cause. But even though the games are not officially part of the win-loss record, some games are still packed and the team still earns considerable amount from tickets and other sponsorships. In short, the pre-season can be used by teams to earn more by showing their skills before the game.

Since the games are not that important and doesn't matter, you should expect many teams to let the game go. There is still competitiveness in the game but they don't want their players to bring their best game in the season to a game that do not matter. What the teams normally do is they use their rookies and try them for the first time.

The pre-season is also the perfect time to try out some plays that could be used for the regular season. It is also a great time to fool other teams into thinking that you'll be using some plays for the season. In short, pre-season games are actually a time to experiment have fun and also improve your reputation as a player. For coaches, it's a time to see what others can do and maybe take notes on who can really do damage when the season starts.

Even though as a fan, you should be excited about these games these games should not be a good way to predict the upcoming season. Of course, you should be able to learn more about the players but from the standpoint of win-loss record, you'll never be able to gain anything. A good example is the New England Patriots. The Pats win-loss record during the pre-season game is 9-14 since 2004. However, their win-loss record during the regular season is a whopping 71-20 including the 18-1 season.

It's important to note that these games are just experiments and teams are not afraid to lose. Although this will give them a fair idea on how the team should perform in the upcoming season, this is not a determining factor that should have any affect in your current picks when the season begins. Just watch, learn from the players and enjoy the pre-season games because they were made for the fans to enjoy and not for the Super Bowl.
