The conference finals in the east and west are midway. As Cavs, Magic, Lakers and Nuggets vie for the final two spot of the NBA finals, everyone is at the edge of their seat. Although there are those who predict a Lebron-Kobe match up in the finals, their opponents (Nuggets and Magic) are standing in their way. Frankly, Nuggets and Magic should not be counted out. Howard is getting a lot stronger every game in the Eastern Conference finals and Anthony is getting a lot aggressive with the aid of Billups in the west.

But the conference finals are just the preview of the head to head battle of the NBA as well as fantasy players. From the rotisserie format, the battle in different fantasy leagues will now follow the head to head rules wherein fantasy players pick draft in turn from two teams. Of course, this will not happen yet until both conferences are done. However, it pays to prepare for the upcoming challenges on different fantasy leagues.

If you want to be successful in a head to head league, there is one rule that you should take advantage of – the first player rule. Simply put, the first fantasy player to draft a player will most likely win the battle. There is still a chance that the second, third and the rest of the draft will come out as the determining factor for the head to head battle. However, the length of the conference as well as the stats of the players has already established who will be big in the finals. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you already know the best player to draft when the finals come.
But fantasy players have to remember that fantasy leagues is an information-driven game. Every piece of information related to players, the team and the league should be considered by each fantasy player as they would have an effect on the stats. Call it “information hoarding” but that is the only way you can gain an advantage of other players in the league. Without information, your player selection will just be based on what you previously know. The NBA finals is laden with too many game changing factors that missing out on one of them could cost you your much needed numbers.
Another factor that could change your numbers during the head to head battle in the NBA finals is the “unseen” individuals. There are actually three groups of individuals you should take note as the unseen – the coach, the bench players and the sleepers. They are a very important part of the team and what they do on and off the court could have an effect in the finals.
The finals are coming, so do your research on the best players on the conferences. But aside from the key players, also take note of the small factors and news so that you’ll be prepared when the best-of-seven-series starts.
