Off Season

Off season talks in NFL will never be complete without these two: the impact of the new drafted players in the league and their respective teams and Brett Favre. Of course, the former is expected as the NFL draft is basically a preview not only of the upcoming season but the future of the league. It’s also the best time for sports analysts to brag on their knowledge of the league by predicting the draft. Even the fantasy league is getting hooked up – juicing every moment of the draft by making crazy predictions (and complaints) about the future of their fantasy team.

Brett Favre

But in recent years, the over-analysis of NFL draft now has a partner. To be specific, a soon-to-be-40-this-year partner: Brett Favre. Every off season, one of the best quarterbacks in recent history goes through a vicious rumor mill. The rumor is always based on a single question: are you playing or not? He will say yes (sobbing) after the 2007-2008 with the packers. But before the start of the new season, he was in talks with Jets where he signed a one year contract to play with then Quarterback-weary Jets. Almost every sports channel, blogs and newscasters are trying to get a hold of the hall-of-famer during those months.

Now it seems to be starting all over again. Talks about Brett Favre playing with no less than former rival Vikings are starting to come out. This time, not only the photos and videos about Favre going around the country negotiation have been circulating but even the text message of the great quarterback is now considered news. I wish Brett Favre would create a Twitter account and sell them to different sports channels. He could have made a lot with that for sure.

So what’s in it for us NFL Fantasy Sports nuts? A lot, apparently. Brett Favre playing with the Vikings would be a great background story when the season opens especially when the Vikings face the Packers for a home game. Imagine the awkwardness Favre would have to go through when he plays against his former team on a Vikings Stadium. Aside from Favre’s impact on Vikings, the impact of Vikings as a team to their opponents should also be considered. No more will the Vikings show up with Sage Rosenfels. With Brett Favre in their side, they are sure to create a big impact on the conference and even the league. Even at 39 years old, Brett Favre could still provide a great impact.

Brett Favre and the Vikings?

Of course, all of these are just speculations and will never be official unless Brett Favre announces his deal with the Vikings (no sobbing we hope). When he does, not only will the league scramble for adjustments when they face the Vikings, the fantasy league will have a blast analyzing what happens. Even the presence of Brett Favre could spell a great difference for Vikings and the rest of the league. In fact, we hope Brett could stay in the NFL for a few more seasons so that we could have something to talk other than the draft. Thanks Brett! You’re like our coffee during the off season.
